Position Summary

The Class A Delivery Driver Trainee participates in a structured training program designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to become a successful DOT Driver with Ben E. Keith Foods. Under the guidance of experienced trainers and transportation leadership, the Driver Trainee learns safe driving practices, delivery operations, customer service standards, and regulatory compliance while supporting the timely and accurate delivery of products to customer locations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely deliver products to customer locations along assigned routes while maintaining scheduled delivery windows and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Read and interpret invoices, delivery manifests, and route documentation to accurately assemble, verify, transport, and deliver customer orders.
  • Load, unload, and handle products in a manner that ensures delivery accuracy and prevents product damage.
  • Operate commercial vehicles safely and in compliance with all DOT regulations, traffic laws, company policies, and transportation procedures.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, monitor vehicle condition, and promptly report maintenance needs, mechanical issues, accidents, delays, or other transportation-related concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records and required documentation, including vehicle logs, delivery paperwork, cargo records, and billing statements.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, and management to support efficient delivery operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in all required driver training and safety programs while developing the skills necessary for advancement to a DOT Driver position.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and the values and standards of Ben E. Keith Foods.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of related driving, delivery, warehouse, transportation, or customer service experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, operating instructions, policies, procedures, and route documentation.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, push, and pull products weighing up to 50 pounds or more with assistance when necessary.
