Summit Brewing Co.

The brainchild of St. Paul beer lover Mark Stutrud, Summit Brewing Company was founded with one goal: To bring back the remarkable craft beers once brewed throughout the Upper Midwest. The first keg of Summit Extra Pale Ale rolled out of the brewery, across University Avenue and into Johnny’s Bar on September 25, 1986, placing Summit well ahead of a trend of craft brewing that would eventually sweep the nation. Beer lovers all across the Upper Midwest and beyond have come to appreciate Summit’s commitment to great beer, and it’s an appreciation that grows with every glass poured.

Summit Extra Pale Ale

Summit’s first-born child and flagship beer, Extra Pale Ale has a pronounced hop flavor and a light bronze color. Brewed since 1986, there is not a beer lover in the Twin Cities who isn’t familiar with Summit Extra Pale Ale. Brewed year-round.

ABV 5.3%.

Summit IPA

First brewed with an extra dose of hops to help it survive the long journey from England to beer lovers in India, India Pale Ale is now brewed just for the pleasure of its distinctive hoppy flavor.

ABV 6.4%

Summit Maibock

Originally brewed by monks, Bock eventually became the official beer of May Day celebrations. In that centuries-old tradition, Summit created Maibock. This malty, pale beer is brewed using Czechoslovakian Saaz hops, specialty malts and German lager yeast.

Best With: Great with grilled foods; roasted chicken or pork. Springtime foods, sharp greens like arugula and dandelion; poached shellfish. Southwestern or Mexican cuisine.

Summit Hefeweizen

Hefe Weizen’s light, elegant taste has helped keep Europeans cool in summer for generations. Brewed with a high percentage of wheat malt, its cloudy appearance comes from a small amount of yeast left behind to insure freshness.

Best With: This excellent unfiltered wheat pairs beautifully with sausage, pretzels with mustard, vegetable pate, Crab Lois and is perfect for brunch.

Seasonal Availability: Summer

Summit Horizon Red Ale

A richer shade of Red. Summit has artfully crossed the boundaries of traditional IPA and Amber styles to create a brew all our own. Featuring an aromatic blend of Horizon, Amarillo and Cascade hops with nicely balanced malts for a flavor you’ll enjoy to the fullest.

ABV 5.7%

Summit Oktoberfest

Created to honor the popular European fall celebrations, Summit Oktoberfest is brewed in the Märzen style for a reddish-bronze color, smooth finish, and, of course, polka.

ABV 7.4%

Summit Imperial Pumpkin Porter

The fifth beer in the Unchained Series will be from brewer Nate Siats and is an Imperial Pumpkin Porter. Nate is a big fan of pumpkins and wants to do this up right, starting with where the pumpkins come from. The small, local, organic farm that is providing the pumpkins just so happens to be owned by Charles Jones, one of the strong fellas who work on our keg line! Nate’s desired flavor profile in his own words- A dark, chocolaty, full bodied beer with a slight bitter after taste. Evenly spiced with a hint of pumpkin, you would think you were sitting down for thanksgiving dessert. Perfect for a cool, fall afternoon.

Best With: Porter is an excellent accompaniment to shellfish, particularly steamed oysters and clams. Robust porter and Baltic porter pairs extremely well with chocolate and cream based desserts.

ABV: 7.5%

Silver Anniversary Ale

What better way to celebrate 25 years of Summit than with a limited-edition ale inspired by the beer that started it all? This assertively hopped interpretation of our EPA offers up grapefruit, passion fruit and kiwi aromas that lead to a crisp yet well-balanced finish.

ABV: 6.5% IBUs: 80
