Abbazia - Prosecco Spumante Gold

From one of the oldest grapes grown in Italy, this big, full body style Prosecco is made in the old world style and traditions of northern Italian spumante wines. The vineyard for this classic and old world style Prosecco were founded in the 9th century, and viticulture dates back to ancient times; evidenced by the work of man who has, over the centuries, sculpted the sunniest slopes of Veneto, where the Prosecco grape originated. The exact origins are somewhat of a mystery, but in fact, already known as the “pucino” in the time of the Roman Empire. The empress Livia Augusta was particularly fond of the wine from this grape and was known to consume large quantities daily. Prosecco is a vigorous and hardy vine, with nut colored shoots and quite large, loosely-packed winged clusters of golden yellow berries nestled amongst bright green leaves. Two distinct styles of Prosecco are produced in Italy; Spumante, which comes in two forms; Brut and Extra Dry. The Spumante style is the natural sparkling wine which gives full expression to its character. The Frizzante style is normally produced with lesser quality grapes and uses carbonation in the fermentation process to create the fizz or bubbles to make it a sparkling wine. Regarding Brut and Extra Dry; Brut is the modern or new world style characterized by rich aromas of citrus fruit. Extra Dry is the classic style which combines the aromatic quality with the exalted sapidity of the wines fine bubbles.

At sight a brilliant golden color with hints of light maroon and pink highlights. On the nose it has a delicate feel of roses and underwood. On the palate the wine is slightly dry, sweet and soft, supple and aromatic with a wonderful delicious finish.

A classic style sparkling wine, excellent and refreshing, and pairs well with any meal,or simply enjoyed by the glass.
