Dupont

The brewery Dupont is co-writer of a real part of the Belgian beer history.
Situated in Tourpes (Leuze-en-Hainaut), in the centre of West-Hainaut, and incorporated in an old farm, originally dating from 1759, the brewing has been going on since 1844.

The original beer was a “Saison Beer”, meaning that this beer was brewed in the winter, to be drunk in the following summer by the workers (seasonworkers) on the fields.

Ever since 1950, the brewery Dupont has been specialised in the production of top fermentation beers with refermentation in the bottle.

The most famous beers are Moinette blond en Saison Dupont-
A part of our production is qualified as organic beer with the label Biogarantie: Moinette biologique – Saison bio – Biolegere – Biere de miel…
We still brew the traditional way and our yearly production reaches up to 10.000 litres.

In export we have a number of countries as: States, Japan, Canada, France, Italy, The Netherlands, England…

Tradition and quality: the two key-words reflecting the Brewery Dupont philosophy.

Moinette Artisnal Ale Blonde

The “Moinette blonde” is a top fermentation beer with refermentation in the bottle.
Ever since its creation in 1955, this beer is considered as “the showpiece” of the brewery Dupont on the Belgian market.
For centuries, the region where the brewery is situated, was pretty swampy, (swamp = marais (francais moderne) = moene (francais ancient), so the name Moinette was linked to this “moene region”.
In the little village of Tourpes existed also a mill and a “Cense de la Moinette”, both belonged to the Dupont dynasty. (cense = farmstead).

Originally, the name “Abbaye de la Moinette” was used for this beer, but since 1980 the name “Moinette” has become the commercial name.

Coppery blond with many fine hop aromas, the “Moinette blonde” is a very refreshing beer, thanks to its subtle balance between sweet, bitter and fruity.

The selection of our yeasts gives this beer its typical aroma and taste.
A real refermentation in the bottle, which continues for a long time in your cellar, results in a complex taste and harmonious bouquet.

Saison Dupont

The Saison Dupont is a top fermentation beer with refermentation in the bottle.

Since 1844, this beer has been brewed in our farm-brewery, during the winter time. Then this beer became a second refermentation in the barrel. During the next summer, this very thirst-quenching beer was served to the “saisoniers” which were working on the fields.

Surely therefore, our Saison Dupont is considered as “the classic” among the Belgian season beers!
Coppery blond, the finest aromas and a strong bitterness transform this beer into a thirst-quenchener with no equal, just the way it was created.

Our selection of yeasts is the perfect base for these typical aromas and ditto taste.

A real refermentation in the bottle, which will continue for a long time in your cellar, result into this complex and particular aromatic beer.

Biėre de Miel

The Biėre de Miel biologique (beer with honey) is a top fermentation beer with refermentation in the bottle.
Already in 1880, this honey-beer was a speciality of our farm-brewery Rimaux-Deridder, very well known and awarded with many prices on various agricultural exhibitions.

When the family Dupont took over the brewery, this beer disappeared from the marked, but in 1997, more than 75 years later, the Biėre de Miel was “re-created” in an organic version.
The label we use on the bottles is an exact reproduction of the original.
This amber beer with strong pronounced honey aromas, has, very predictable, a dominating taste of honey.

But we cannot catalogue this Biėre de Miel biologique in the range of sweet beers, on the contrary.
The sugar in the organic honey, fully refermented in the bottle, creates a beer, not sweet at all but full of honey aromas and ditto taste.

Our choice of strong, organic honey types result in a very particular taste.

A real refermentation in the bottle, which continues for a long time in your cellar make this a really complex beer .

ABV: 8%

Moinette Brune

The “Moinette brune” is a top fermentation beer with refermentation in the bottle.
Since its creation in 1986 this beer becomes more and more famous.

A melange of 4 special malts results into this unusual colour, light darkbrown going into russet. The aromas of hop and special malts are creating the dominating taste in this beer.

The “Moinette brune” combines a slightly bitterness with a fruity touch.

A real refermentation in the bottle, which will continue for many months in your cellar, will transform this product into a quite surprising beer.

ABV: 8.5%

Foret Oraganic Saison

The Dupont brewery is run by Marc Rosier (brewer) and his sister (microbiologist). They also operate the farm, and are interested in sustainable agriculture. This has led to Foret, a Saison beer that is the first certified organic beer in Belgium. Foret is 5% abv, has the recognizable house yeast character, but it is more angular in its taste.

Experts’ Opinion

“Today, some of the best know Saisons are made by Brasserie Dupont, a farmhouse brewery in western Belgium. Foret, an organic saison made by Dupont, shares the bitter finish of Vieille Provision but is spicy and earthier-tasting. It evokes newly mown grass, another sure sign of summer.”

James Rodewald
Gourmet Magazine, June 2002

“[Foret] is an unfiltered organic Belgian ale from this well respected artisan brewery, better known for their classic Saison. It has a lumpy, rocky head and a pleasing pale golden colour. The nose is a complex blend of spices and fruit- coriander, cinnamon, vanilla, pepper, figs, and a hint of toffee. In the mouth there are lots of phenols and esters adding lightness to the texture, with complex spicy malt and a subtle burning strength in the back of the throat. However, the strength is well disguised on the tongue- it is smooth and not too lively ( despite the ‘pop’ when pulling the cork ). Aftertaste is long, zesty, malty and spicy. This was for a long time the most interesting organic beer in the database, and is still one of the best. It’s certainly well deserving of the World Beer Championships Top 10 award…”
