Rogue / Oregon Brewing Company

Rogue is a small revolution, which expresses itself through handcrafted Ales, Porters, Stouts, Lagers and Spirits, and this is the way we conduct our business. The spirit of the Rogue brand, even the name, suggests doing things differently, a desire and a willingness to change the status quo. A Rogue Ale, Porter, Stout, Lager or Spirit is crafted to give it unique character, innovative in its makeup and brewing, a process that has not compromised quality. We believe that if a Rogue Ale, Porter, Stout, Lager or Spirit cannot be all of these things, it should not be made at all.

“Who cares how time advances? I am drinking ale today.”
- Edgar Allan Poe

Pale golden in color with a hoppy fruity aroma. Big hop flavor up front complemented by medium body and hoppyness mid-pallet. Finishes with a characteristic lingering bitterness.

Dead Guy Ale

In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved so popular with consumers and especially Grateful Dead fans, that we made it the label for our Maierbock ale. Even though the association with the Grateful Dead band is pure coincidence, we have gratefully dedicated Dead Guy Ale to the Rogue in each of us.

In the style of a German Maibock, using our proprietary Pacman ale yeast. Deep honey in color with a malty aroma and a rich hearty flavor.

Shakespear Stout

Victorian England recognized Oatmeal Stouts nutritional value and it is traditionally the drink of choice for nursing mothers and athletes. It is a beer equally at home with oysters as it is with a homemade pizza and freshly tossed green salad (or as a float over ice cream).

Hazelnut Brown Nectar

Dedicated to the homebrewer in each of us! The homebrewer who inspired this creation is Chris Studach, a friend of Rogue’s resident wizard John Maier, who added a Northwest twist to the classic style by adding hazelnuts for the host homebrew at the 1993 American Homebrewers Association
convention. Chris put the nut in nut brown!

Kells Irish Lager

In 1998 the McAleese Brothers, owners of Kells Irish Pubs in Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, and San Francisco, wanted to make an American beer that would float Guinness. Gerard and Patrick McAleese asked Rogue Brewmaster John Maier to create the recipe. It took four batches to get it just right. John used acidulated malts imported from Europe that resulted in a crisp, apple flavor profile. The bottle label reflects the McAleese family heritage, pictures the Kells Irish Pub logo, and a famous Irish Flutist.

Chipotle Ale

Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s American Amber Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole black and tan!

A delicious and food friendly porter to serve with charred steaks” – World Beer Championship Judges

Dad's Little Helper Black IPA

After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the first Father?s Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father?s Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance.

Dad?s Little Helper Black IPA is deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt.

Expect to see it beginning in April or May in both 22 oz. bottles and 13.2 gallon kegs.

IBUs: 70

Imperial Younger's Special Bitter Ale

Imperial Younger’s Special Bitter was originally brewed in 2006 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Horse Brass Pub in Portland, Oregon. The Horse Brass Pub, owned by the legendary Don Younger, was Rogue’s first account in Portland in 1989 and Younger’s Special Bitter was developed by Rogue brewmaster John Maier as the house beer for the Horse Brass. Smooth & malty with a kick of bitterness, this is a couple noches above the standard YSB! 8 Ingredients: Malts: 2-row pale and Crystal. Hops: Willamette, Kent Golding and Amarillo. Yeast & Water: Rogue’s Pacman Yeast & Free Range Coastal Water.

Best With: Generally speaking, amber ales are incredibly versatile food beers. Caramalized malts combined with the fruity esters produced during fermentation make amber ales great compliments to grilled meats, particularly beef and pork.

ABV: 7.4%

Morimoto Soba Ale

The Morimoto Soba Ale is part of the new Signature Series of Rogue Ales, launched in the Spring of 2003 with internationally acclaimed Chef Masaharu Morimoto – a James Beard awarded chef and one of the stars of the Food Network series, Iron Chef.

Soba (also known as buckwheat) is not a type of wheat but a member of the rhubard family and has been a longtime staple of Japanese cuisine because of its nutritional value. Buckwheat is high in potassium, phosphorous, vitamin B (50 percent more than wheat) and protein, and its virtually fat-free. The fruits of the buckwheat plant are like small beechnuts, which are milled to separate the edible groats from the dark brown hulls. The groats are then roasted and used more or less like a grain (a good example is Kasha).
