Saint Arnold Brewing Company
Saint Arnold Brewing Company, located in Houston, is Texas’ Oldest Craft Brewery. Our goal is to brew world class beers and deliver them to our customers as fresh as possible making them the best beers in Texas. Our customers are beer lovers – people that appreciate great, full-flavored beers.
Our small crew of seventeen does everything at the brewery: brew the beer, filter the beer, keg the beer, bottle the beer, sell the beer and drink the beer. For us, this is a passion, not a job. We believe that this comes through in the beers we make. Our beers have soul.
We brew ten different beers. Five are made year round and five are seasonal. They are available in bars, restaurants, grocery stores, liquor stores and warehouse stores in Houston, Austin, Dallas, Ft. Worth and San Antonio.
Our first keg of beer was shipped on June 9, 1994 making us now open for 14 years, 8 months, and 7 days . Founded by Brock Wagner and Kevin Bartol, we chose Houston because, other than living here, this was the largest city in the country that did not have a microbrewery. Brock was a longtime homebrewer and had considered opening a brewery as far back as college, although that was quickly dismissed as a silly idea. Seven years after graduating, Brock revisited the idea, enlisted Kevin’s help and the brewery was off and running. Kevin has since left the business after a bitter battle. (Just kidding – but don’t you wish people wrote that when it was the truth?).

Pumkinator

Just in time for Halloween, Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com) will resurrect one of its dearly departed brews. But Saint Arnold Pumpkinator is no zombie of a beer. Formerly released as Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 9 nearly two years ago, Pumpkinator is slated for the first of what will be an annual pre-holiday release on Thursday, October 13, 2011.
Saint Arnold Pumpkinator is an Imperial Pumpkin Stout Ale. There are a number of firsts associated with Saint Arnold Pumpinator’s release, including:
-The first new seasonal brew introduced by Saint Arnold since the release of Saint Arnold Spring Bock 13 years ago.
-The first re-release of one of the brewery’s Saint Arnold Divine Reserve recipes.
-The first beer from Saint Arnold to be released in 22-ounce bombers.
“When we first introduced Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 9 in 2009, we set out to brew a beer that would stand up to the spicing traditionally associated with pumpkin ales,” said Brock Wagner, Founder/Brewer of Saint Arnold Brewing. “Our solution was to pumpkinize an imperial stout. We loved the result. We found it to be the perfect finish to our Thanksgiving dinners – and it made our relatives much more enjoyable.”
Black with ruby highlights, Saint Arnold Pumpkinator is full of pumpkin pie spices with notes of nutmeg, caraway and vanilla. In fact, some describe the beer’s taste as chocolate pumpkin pie. For this brew, serving at temperatures of 50 degrees or higher can considerably enhance the flavor profile. As it warms, the spices move forward in the taste and the chocolate moves to the finish. The pumpkin provides a pleasant undertone and a nice mouthfeel.
Amber Ale
A well-balanced, full flavored, amber ale. It has a rich, malty body with a pleasant caramel character derived from a specialty Caravienne malt. A complex hop aroma, with a hint of floral and citrus comes from a combination of Cascades and Liberty hops. It has a rich, creamy head with a fine lace. The light fruitiness, characteristic of ales, is derived from a proprietary yeast strain.

Brown Ale
A beautiful, deep copper brown ale. It has a full, malty body with hints of chocolate, a touch of sweetness and a light hop flavor. A complex malt character is created by combining five different types of malts. It has a rich, creamy head with a fine lace. The light fruitiness, characteristic of ales, is derived from a proprietary yeast strain.
Saint Arnold Brown Ale is best consumed at 45º-50º Fahrenheit.

Texas Wheat
A refreshing, flavorful filtered wheat beer. The perfect beer to accompany a meal or for a summer’s day. The wheat contributes a lighter flavor while maintaining a rich body. The beer has a light hop profile—just enough to give the beer balance and complexity. The light fruitiness is derived from a Kolsch yeast strain. A chill haze may be present, which is a characteristic of wheat beers. Saint Arnold Texas Wheat is best consumed at 40º-45º Fahrenheit.

Fancy Lawnmower
A true German-style Kolsch. Originally brewed in Cologne, this beer is light yet has a sweet malty body that is balanced by a complex, citrus hop character. Multiple additions of German Hallertauer hops are used to achieve this delicate flavor. We use a special Kolsch yeast, an ale yeast that ferments at lager temperatures, to yield the slightly fruity, clean flavor of this beer. Fancy Lawnmower Beer is a world class brew yet light enough to be enjoyed by Texans after strenuous activities, like mowing the lawn.
Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer is best consumed at 35º-45º Fahrenheit.

Elissa IPA
A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Our reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it. The maltiness is derived from British Maris Otter malt. Its rich flavor stands up to the hops that would otherwise dominate this beer. The Elissa is an authentic version of an India Pale Ale (IPA) style.

Divine Reserve
No. 11
Our Divine Reserve is a series of single batch beers, each brewed with a completely different recipe. The batches are identified by the number on the neck label. There is no particular theme to the beers, although it can be assumed that most all of them will be big. Many will benefit from being aged under refrigeration, not at room temperature.
Since we brew such small batches, and the releases are closely watched by our loyal fans, the Divine Reserve sells out quickly! Sign up for the Saint Arnold Newsletter to be alerted to future releases.
For 2011, the color is deep amber with a light, creamy head. The nose starts off with a touch of citrus but then turns decidedly into peaches. The taste starts off with creamy malt resulting from the pale 2 row and caramel malts and Saint Arnold yeast. The hop bitter starts low then builds to a crescendo, but always maintains a balance even in its big finish. The hop flavor continues to be peaches, an interesting manifestation of the Columbus, Simcoe and Centennial hops. This is the first Divine Reserve that we have filtered. This decision was made to make the hop flavors brighter, plus it would have been a bottling nightmare with all the hop bits in it. This beer is best enjoyed at 45° or even a little warmer. Though the recipe and style indicate this beer to be enjoyed fresh, we expect this beer to develop interestingly over the years.

Weedwacker
Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, today announced plans for a series of special brews that offer a twist on their year-round beer recipes. The first quarterly release in the so-called “Movable Yeast” series, will be Saint Arnold Weedwacker, a re-yeasted version of Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer, which has quietly become the brewery’s biggest seller.
The concept behind the Movable Yeast series is to focus on the flavor contribution of yeast. Each release will be created by brewing a regular batch of a Saint Arnold beer and then splitting the wort (unfermented beer) into two 60 bbl fermenters. One fermenter will be pitched with the yeast normally used in that beer and the second fermenter will be pitched with an alternative yeast and the beer given a different name.
Saint Arnold Weedwacker will be Fancy Lawnmower Beer fermented with Bavarian hefeweizen yeast. This yeast contributes esters to the beer resulting in clove and banana flavors. Like a hefeweizen, Weedwacker will not be filtered. It is scheduled for release to selected Texas restaurants and bars on Monday, August 16, 2010.
Altared Amber
The second in our Moveable Yeast series will be available on draft starting next Wednesday, December 1. In this release, we brewed 120 bbls of Amber Ale wort, filled two 60 bbl tanks with wort, pitched one with Saint Arnold yeast to make Amber Ale and pitched the other with Belgian Trappist yeast to make Altared Amber. Yes, we spelled it that way intentionally.
We want you to try the tasty altered version with its clove and spice notes and compare it with the tasty regular Amber and remember that the only difference between these two beers is the yeast. Discuss.
Altared Amber will be on tap on our weekday tours too for a very limited time starting December 1.
Draught only.
Farmer Brown's Ale
Farmer Brown’s Ale is our regular Brown Ale fermented with saison yeast. The result is a beer with pleasantly spicy and earthy notes, nice fruitiness, a dry finish but with a nice malt flavor to stand up to all of the yeast notes. We thought it was such an interesting beer when we test brewed it that we moved it up in the order of Moveable Yeast releases.
It will start showing up on draft in accounts next week (Feb. 28), although some accounts will wait considerably longer before tapping their kegs. It will also be available on our weekday tours at the brewery starting this coming Monday.
Draught Only
Santo
Santo is brewed using pale two-row and pils malted barley, a dash of malted wheat and an addition of dark malt. Saint Arnold uses Hallertau Hersbrucker hops, added to the brew kettle in four separate cycles to create a delicate flavor and aroma.
Santo is the sixth year-round beer from Saint Arnold. It joins Saint Arnold Amber Ale, Saint Arnold Brown Ale, Saint Arnold Elissa IPA, Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer and Saint Arnold Weedwacker in the regular lineup.

Saint Arnold Imperial Stout - Cask

This is an imperial stout (read: big, strong) that we put in a bourbon barrel last September. We then stuck it in the back of the cold box and made casks from the barrels a week ago (for St. Patrick’s Day). We made a few extra this year so we could let more people in on the wonderful elixir. This is a very expensive beer to make so expect to pay a little more for it, but it is well worth it. Don’t have too many at a sitting though!
ABV: 5.6%
