Harpoon
Harpoon was officially born on June 19, 1986 when the Mass Bay Brewing Co. was incorporated, though its origins preceed the actual date. Rich Doyle wrote the business plan for the Harpoon Brewery during his second year at Harvard Business School. At that time, he was unable to find the variety of beers that were available in Europe, nor the rich beer culture he had enjoyed there. Breweries in the U.S. had changed from being a part of the local community to remote facilities serving national markets. The craft brewing revolution had yet to bloom. Rich teamed up with Dan Kenary and George Ligetti, who also shared a passion for local brewing, to form a company.Brewery Pictures:

Harpoon Leviathan Series - Imperial IPA
“The Leviathan Series is a way for us to experiment with stronger flavors and bigger beers,” says Harpoon CEO and co-founder Rich Doyle. “We have always wanted to challenge ourselves as brewers and offer our drinkers a broader range of taste and styles.”Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA will challenge your senses and your palate. As the vibrant aroma rushes out of your glass you will notice the blend of piney and tropical fruit notes. At first sip, this big beer starts with apowerful hop bitterness up front and an aggressive hop flavor and character throughout.
Leviathan Imperial IPA is brewed with tons of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt body to balance the hop intensity. We used copious amounts of a variety of hops including Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo at various points during the boil to create a complex hop flavor and clean lingering bitter finish. We then fermented the beer with Harpoon’s own versatile proprietary yeast. Finally, we dry hopped at a rate of over 1 lb a barrel to produce this beer’s massive aroma.
ABV: 10%

Winter Warmer
Winter Warmer was Harpoon?s first seasonal beer. It was designed to be enjoyed during the holiday season. When you bring a glass of this dark copper ale to your lips to take your first sip you will notice the aroma of cinnamon. There is no aromatic hop added that might overpower the distinct spice scent. The medium body of this beer is formed from caramel and pale malts. These create enough body to support the spices without making the beer excessively rich. Bittering hops are added to counter the sweetness of the malt and spice. The finish of the beer is a blend of cinnamon and nutmeg. The combination of these two spices results in a balanced, pumpkin-pie flavor.
The overall character is a smooth, medium bodied ale spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Best With: Savory hor d’oerves, duck, apple pie, pumpkin pie.
ABV: 5.9%
IBUs: 22

Harpoon IPA
The origins of India Pale Ale (IPA) dictate its flavor profile. As a result of needing a beer that could withstand the trip from England to India via unrefrigerated sailing vessels, the English brewers took advantage of two natural preservatives: alcohol and hops.Harpoon IPA is an interpretation of the classic English style using hops and malt grown in the United States.
The high hopping of Harpoon IPA is not only noticeable in the nose but especially in the finish. The lingering bitter finish of this beer is not harsh or astringent, but crisp and pronounced. This is created, in part, by dry hopping- a technique that involves adding fresh hops to the conditioning beer to provide a fresh hop aroma. Harpoon IPA has 5.9% ABV and 42 IBU’s.
This beer is floral, medium body with an aggressive, clean hop finish.

UFO Hefeweizen
Inspired by the cloudy beers drank in many German beer gardens, UFO Hefeweizen was first brewed in the fall of 1998.Originally available on draft only in select bars throughout the Boston area, it wasn’t long before UFOs were being spotted in groups of six all around Massachusetts and New England. Over the years, more and more people have caught on to what we’ve been doing, but the mission has always been the same: brew some great beer and have some fun enjoying it. We hope you do too!
UFO Hefeweizen is an American unfiltered wheat beer. Perhaps UFO’s initial sensory perception is also its most prominent: a cloudy golden color and a dense, frothy head. The yeast, which has not been filtered out, accounts for the cloudiness of UFO. Wheat malt tends to create a larger head than barley malt, the cereal grain most often used in brewing. When served in a traditional wheat beer glass with a lemon, UFO presents an appealing and distinctive visual image.
The aroma has a faint but clear citrus-like character. This is produced by the special yeast and accounts for the Bavarian tradition of serving hefeweizens with a lemon. The lemon accentuates the yeast’s fruity, tart fragrance. UFO has a soft mouthfeel and a refreshing, light body. The wheat malts and subtle hopping give the beer a mild, delicate flavor. UFO has a clean finish. Unlike some imported hefeweizens, UFO does not have the spicy, tropical flavors typical of European-brewed style.
The overall character is a cloudy appearance with a citrus-like aroma, light body, and clean finish. Serve with a lemon.

Harpoon Cider
In 1986 Harpoon co-founders Rich Doyle and Dan Kenary began brewing Harpoon in Boston to share with others the joy of making-and drinking-great beer. In 2000, we added a second brewery in Windsor, Vermont to keep up with the demand. As a regional craft brewer, we gained interest and respect for cider, a drink with strong roots and history in New England. Harpoon’s cider is our contribution to the long heritage of cider made with fresh juice from locally grown apples.Harpoon Cider is made from a blend of locally grown apples including the New England favorite, McIntosh. By fermenting this blend of varieties with our own yeast we are able to produce an aroma that has a clean, fruity character. This crisp, refreshing cider has just the right balance of ripe apple sweetness and tartness from the fruit?s natural acidity. The color of this smooth tasting cider is very light as a result of using only freshly pressed apples. Without the addition of preservatives, artificial colors, or sweeteners we have created a cider that is fresh, pure, and delicious. Enjoy!
Best With: Try this cider as an accompaniment with cheese, pork dishes, or simply enjoy it on its own. Cooking with Cider: enjoy cider-marinated pork, or use cider to steam mussels. Serve Cider: as an apertif, at brunch, and for special occasions. Bring Cider: along for picnics and parties. Mix Cider: with Harpoon beer. Cider and beer have a heritage in New England that dates back to the Pilgrims. The two drinks can be enjoyed together or you can enjoy cider on its own.
